Artist Statement

My sculptures are from inspirations of people, nature, and life’s experiences. Each plays a major role in my artwork and inspires me to create sculptures out of simple metal materials. I incorporate life‘s beauty into my work by recycling once loved items.

Each of my pieces contain one or more different types of recycled metals: copper, brass, and steel. The colors are created by applying heat with my torch and dipping the metals into water. This is my favorite step because not every piece turns out the same.

In 2018 I was commissioned by the City of Brentwood to create a wall sculpture for their new Library. The tree is nearly 7’ tall and 5’ wide of brass, copper and steel. Last year I created a sculpture of an Elephant whose head is 2’ x 2’ from an old filing cabinet. His trunk was fashioned from an old tuba with ears created from an old tractor seat. This sculpture hangs in the Library of Concord High School.

Additionally last year, I created two lamps from old clarinets with lamp shades of welded steel and copper. These pieces were auctioned at a fundraiser for the Concord High School band. Lately I have been creating brown bears of copper for cabins in Lake Tahoe.
