Artist's Statement

With that first touch of clay, an immediate freedom of expression was discovered. My ceramic journey began while living in on the Central Coast of eastern Australia. Very near Sydney, a local pottery guild offered basic classes in hand-building and wheel throwing along with many different types of firing methods.

Studies in clay include certificates at the Sydney Ceramic School at Hornsby TAFE, many workshops and courses and decades of wheel throwing, figurative sculpture and large vessel hand building. Along with those processes, include different types of firing – raku, pit-firing, salt-firing and reduction and oxidation firing.

My work has been accepted into state competitions & shows, local galleries and collected through the years.

Currently, my work represents a continued exploration of form and function, allowing the inherent qualities of clay to always express a feeling of the hand. Experience guides each piece to take form, allowing the viewer to enjoy the truth of each process. The touch of hand,ever-present, encouraging the beauty of clay, process, and maker. I hope my work inspires the eye and the heart connection of those who use my pottery in daily life.

My love of clay and all its qualities is shared through instruction at Red Ox Clay Studio in Concord, Ca.
