Mary Beth Binder studied and performed dance since the 1990’s. She became interested in glasswork and mosaic after seeing her first tempered glass mosaic at an art festival. She knew that was what she wanted to do. However, it was not until her kneecap was shattered in an accident and she could no longer dance that she turned to mosaic.

It is magical to her that she has been able to create something beautiful out of something broken!

Mary Beth studied and learned from master mosaic artists. Through the Institute of Mosaic Art in Berkeley, California, she has attended workshops with visiting artists Ellen Blakeley, Kelley Knickerbocker, Laurel Skye, Laurel True, Rachel Rodi, and has studied classical hammer & hardie stonecutting from Michael Kruzich. She was able to briefly assist and learn from Ellen Blakeley in her studio in 2013, and has been assisting Rachel Rodi in her studio since late 2014.

Mary Beth’s work is held in private collections in Hawaii, California and New York.
