Living in the visually spectacular Lake Tahoe has inspired me to focus primarily on landscape painting. My style is expressive realism. I paint mainly from observation, but focus on the emotions the view evokes, through the use of bright colors, strong brushstrokes, and thick paint. My hope is to bring the viewer into a “place of beauty and tranquility.” Most of my work is done in oil and watercolor, and many of my paintings are done en plein air.
I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, and graduated from U.C. Berkeley earning a degree in Social Welfare. While at Berkeley, I was most influenced by the teaching style and content of Joan Brown’s color theory class. I continued my studies at San Francisco State University to obtain a Teaching Credential and later, I earned an Art Credential. Following my passion for teaching, I worked in San Francisco and Sacramento as a classroom teacher and an art teacher.
Moving to Tahoe Vista, full-time in 2012, allowed me to enjoy the true wonders of the Lake Tahoe region through the wealth of outdoor activities such as hiking, biking, and painting. I value continued education, and I am always trying to expand my skills through taking college level art classes, and workshops offered through many local organizations and talented artists, both local and nationally known.
Currently, I am exhibiting at the Blackhawk Gallery in Danville as a member of the Alamo Danville Artist’s Society. I am also a member of the Sierra Watercolor Society and North Tahoe Arts Center. My artwork can be found in stores in Kings Beach, Tahoe City, and Truckee, California. My originals and giclee prints on linen and canvas can be found in private collections in the San Francisco Bay Area, Portland, Oregon, Morro Bay, California, Reno, Nevada, Florida, various Lake Tahoe locations, and on the East Coast.
