Dan Good Sculptor

Biography

dontwakemeDan Good builds abstract sculptural works inspired by the elegance of geometry and the complexities of the human mind. Bringing an engineering background to three-dimensional art, he is fascinated by the line between what he can and can’t analyze. His sculptures are based around the interactions of simple geometric elements pushing against one another, including open and closed boxes, chains, sheets, tubes, and whatever else he can’t quite wrap his head around. His materials include steel, stainless steel, plywood, glass, and whatever else he can leverage into the desired forms. Hard work in the fabrication shop keeps him grounded and looking ahead to the next materials, techniques, and forms to work with.

67744-10449684-noto2_jpgDan graduated from the Electronic Music and Recording Media MFA program at Mills College in Oakland, CA in 2010, focusing on sound sculpture. He now keeps his fabrication shop and design studio at American Steel Studios in West Oakland.  Before studying at Mills College, Dan received undergraduate and masters degrees in Electrical Engineering from MIT and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from UC Berkeley. He is much happier now that he is using his engineering training to build works of art.

Dan’s work has been shown in many locations in galleries and in public, including Filoli Gardens, Oakland City Center, Oakwilde Sculpture Ranch, the City of Orinda Public Art Program, the City of Greeley CO Public Art Program, the Cloverdale -Geyserville Sculpture trail, the Richmond Arts Center, Manifest Gallery, and the San Francisco Electronic Music Festival.
