Alexandra Saunders is a wildlife artist and an impassioned wildlife conservationist living and working in the
San Francisco Bay Area. Her paintings are drawn from her love of the natural world and are intimate close-ups
of the animals she so fervently is working to protect. Her work viscerally communicates the beauty and wonder
surrounding us.

As a young child her family moved from Tennessee to Java, exposing her to a world full of wonder and mystery..

She expressed this in her art, and as a young student, worked as a biological illustrator receiving her B.S. at UC
Berkeley in Conservation of Natural Resources. As the recipient of a coveted Lawrence National Laboratories
Fellowship she worked as a Research Scientist in Energy and Environment and pursued her Ph.D in Wildland
Resource Conservation studying orangutans and the deleterious effects the mining and forestry industries were
having on their habitats.

After University her path took her strangely into the world of finance and commerce. It wasn’t until a family
tragedy struck some 8 years later that she began reconnecting with her love of nature and art. Her drawings
became her personal grief journal portraying the natural world she yearned to return to.

20 years later she was awarded the prestigious Orangutan Republik Foundation’s Pongo Award for her work
helping orangutans. When the world pandemic hit, she finally was able to step away from the business world and
immerse herself in the world of nature and wildlife conservation art.

For her, it has been the greatest gift; today her days are filled with painting portraits of animals that have stories
to tell. Proceeds from the sale of her art are donated to wildlife sanctuaries and conservationists working in the
field. Each portrait benefits animals in crisis.

Fascination Exhibit at Blackhawk Gallery

Yim Ivy Wu, Night View of Ocean, Mixed Media

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Yim Ivy Wu is an artist who likes portraying different themes with oils, especially for scenery and confident, beautiful women with a contemporary art style. Since she began drawing as a child, her main interest was having figures in all her favorite artworks. After she had grown up, she has been trying to represent the figures in a way that maybe she can’t express with words or writing. Ivy has also been greatly inspired by the natural world since she first came to California as a young adult from the beautiful city, Hong Kong.

Ivy’s artworks were published in LPC’s Award Winning Literary Arts Journal 2019/2010. Before that, she had worked in the business world for several years after she earned her Master’s degree from California State University, Sacramento. Currently, she lives with her loving husband David and her two kids Helen and Brian in Danville, California.

Guest Artist

‘Everlasting’ features guest artist Patty Taylor.  Patty describes herself as an experimentalist with creative passion.  She creates flamed abstract sculptures of the figurative female figure that adorn themes that honor music, dance, ocean, spirituality, fashion and anthropology.  Patty is fascinated with texturing clay, glazing, or fuming in flamed firing processes – Raku, Saggar and Pit Fire.  These alternative clay firing processes bring a splendor of mystery and matte finishes that roll into high luster and colors to create a dramatic mood.
